Cycle Kirklees supported proposed changes in the recent consultations about the future of Batley Town centre. The town centre is a busy shopping area with cafes, takeaways and links to Tesco supermarket. At times traffic creates unpleasant air quality and antisocial parking often takes up space on the footways.
The A641 scheme brings lots of benefits to Brighouse, with significant use of separated 2-way cycle tracks creating the start of a cohesive network including a parallel new greenway (parallel to and in a main road corridor) and CYCLOPS junctions.
Cycle Kirklees’ submission on the Huddersfield Railway Station Connections consultation commends plans to improve routes to Birkby, Greenhead Park and Leeds Road but makes some key reservations. Cycle Kirklees has responded to the draft Holmfirth Blueprint with 16 specific proposals. In our submission, we were positive about the aspirations in the Blueprint ‘to increase space for pedestrians/cyclists and make the centre more accessible for all groups’.
Cycle Kirklees has submitted a detailed planning objection to a large housing and industrial development. We are concerned that there is inadequate provision for cycling and walking both within the boundary of the proposed developments and in the routes to access local services and employment in Kirklees, Wakefield and Leeds districts.
